Aaarrrr me hearties!
Pirates Around the Pier is a unique, fun SUP challenge for all the family, in Pirate fancy dress and in aid of local charities. Where else can you paddle on inland waters and around one of Britain’s longest piers in the space of an hour or so?!
We’ll take to the water on the big spring tide at Southport pier on Saturday April 9th, paddle around the pier, then pop across to the marine lake to finish the 2 mile course, crossing the line at the Sailing Club. Medals for all and prizes for the best pirate fancy dress – you could even dress up your board!
This distance is suitable for all with just an introductory level of paddle boarding experience – if you’re not sure, get in touch for more details.
On the sea leg we will have safety support from the lifeboats of Southport Offshore Rescue Trust – our independent lifeboat charity. A portion of the proceeds will go to the trust, along with Lakeside Christian Centre who generously support our paddling with the use of their car parking and facilities.
Southport Sailing Club are kindly playing host again, which means free parking, changing rooms and hot drinks available.
Registration is from 10am to 11.00, safety briefing at 11.30 and the race starts from the sluice gates slipway at 12.15pm. Marshalls will be in place to see everyone safely across the road at the zebra crossing and onto the lake.
Juniors with paddling experience welcome, accompanied on the water by a paddling parent, or go twos up on one board!
Entry fee is £15 per adult (or per board if a child is on board with you), £10 for juniors, with £6 going to our two charities and medals for all
Board hire is available for £5 – get in touch!
