Recently we had a fun day paddling 10 miles on the Leeds Liverpool canal….and quite a crowd of local paddle boarders came along!
Twenty one stand up paddlers took to the canal at Parbold on inflatable boards – ideal for lifting in and out of the water at locks!
A lot of heads were turned, as most boaters and those on the tow path had never seen a stand up paddle board, let alone 21 of them!
After a great lunch at the Crooke Hall Inn, a well-deserved stop at the Boathouse pub in Appley Bridge and a final ice cream in Parbold, boards were deflated and packed away and sun-kissed paddlers headed home….wondering about our next SUP adventure!
You can plan canal paddles on this really useful website. When paddling on canals and rivers managed by the Canal and River Trust you should either purchase a day licence for £4.85 here, or join British Canoeing including 12 months licence here.
