On Sunday March 15th we’re holding Southport’s first ever Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) Race. It’s race 3 in the Northern SUP Winter League, after successful events in Birmingham and Durham.
This is a fun, short course race for paddlers of all abilities and experience, and any type of board. Our aim is to get people on the water, have a social event and showcase our brilliant sport and how accessible it is.
The course is 2 miles (3.2km) around Southport’s Victorian Marine Lake – one of the largest man-made leisure lakes in England. There will be separate categories for 14 foot, 12’6″ and all round SUP boards. Our hosts for the day are Southport Sailing Club, who are kindly offering the use of their clubhouse including free parking, changing rooms & toilets, bar and hot food. Entry is £10.
Registration opens at 10am, with race briefing at 11:45 and the start at 12:30. After the main race we have two giant inflatable SUP boards, including the Red Paddle Co Ride XL, for team racing. These boards can carry up to 8 (or more?!) paddlers at a time, so there should be plenty of action on the water for participants and spectators alike! Red Paddle Co will also have more boards from their new 2015 collection available for demo.

Prizes to be won! If you’re in it, you could win it! Tushingham Sails have very kindly donated an awesome Starboard Tiki Tech adjustable SUP paddle, and we also have tshirts, XM leash, waterproof phone case, Tiki towel and more to come. Prizes will be randomly won based on race number, so everyone taking part has a chance of winning. We’ll also have medals for podium finishers in each category.

Please see our Facebook event page for more details and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. See you there!
